Men Are Disappearing

Men Are Disappearing

American men are disappearing from the workforce.  They’re disappearing from many traditional roles in society.  And it’s not just because an insanely high number of them are being thrown into cages at astronomical rates.  They’re also shunning marriage, and I love how more and more people are talking about why men are leaving the Honor roles that older generations of men enjoyed living.  Where are all the men going?  In many ways they’re going ronin....

I Don’t Know What This “Ronin” Thing Is

But I know I gotta do it. A whole bunch of men–and especially young men–in my life, need conversations with other man about what’s missing and what’s fucked up in their life that the rest of the worlds seems not to notice or understand. When no one else in your life is talking about something that’s a real part of your life, you can start go feel crazy.  Is something wrong with me? But there are real cultural dynamics and changes going on our world right now that are deeply affecting many men.  And many will turn...

Gone Ronin? What’s In A Name

Posted by on 6:07 pm in The Ronin Diaries, Uncategorized | 0 comments

Gone Fishin’ — When you´ve left the world behind and go out into nature for some stillness and time alone. Gone Runnin’ — When you’ve run from the law or whoever’s hunting you, and head for the hills, the border or the wild blue yonder. Gone Rogue — When you’ve left the official group, tribe, company or team, and go out on your own or join a rival group. Ronin — A samurai who defied his code of honor by not committing ritual suicide, and instead choosing to be a masterless free man roaming...

Rise of the Ronin in Richmond, California

Posted by on 8:56 pm in News of the Rise | 0 comments

I just read this story about older men, many of whom are ex-convicts, are coming together to make a stand for the young, forgotten men in their community.  The creative project organized by DeVonne Boggan rewards young men with money and trips for not retaliating with violence against those who murdered their friends.  But the bigger picture is, it shows these young men that someone gives a fuck about them.  The older men in the program show up to have the backs of these young men when they need it. The program has young men think twice...

Some experts like Peter Schiff are saying it has already begun.  If so, are you ready?  Maybe it is time to rethink how you are planning for your future.  Maybe its time to get free and become an agile mover in the world.  What if recessions didn’t affect you, your state of mind and heart, and your ability to live an incredible adventure? I will soon be announcing a deep adventure for men in which I will be sharing all I have learned the last six years about winning my freedom and moving freely around the world from culture to culture....

Facing Reality: Most Americans Are Only One Paycheck Away From The Street

Posted by on 3:46 pm in Facing Reality | 0 comments

Most Americans are only one paycheck away from the street.  Although this may be a bit of an exaggeration, as most people have friends and family and options other than going straight to the street when they can’t pay their bills, but to me it seems so CRAZY to be running the rat race so fast and likely with so much fear and stress, keeping one’s debt and expenses so high and one’s income options so low.  This has become the American Way–some are now calling it the American Nightmare.  Sounds so sad to say it, but so...

Facing Reality: Hyper-Militarized Federal Bureacracies

Posted by on 1:55 am in Facing Reality | 0 comments

This story from the Washington Post this week:  Federal judge decides that drinking tea and shopping at a gardening store give probable cause for a SWAT raid on your home.  Just another in a long line of aggressive over-the-top raid like ones on this grandmother and on Amish farmers and others providing raw milk. One reason I left the “Land of the Free.”  I am simply Done being subject to SWAT team home raids by heavily militarized by federal bureaucracies pointing guns at children’s heads for crimes such as selling raw milk...

Honoring Elders: Stephen R. Covey

Posted by on 7:54 am in Honoring Elders | 0 comments

[Honoring Elders: American culture has lost to a great degree the custom and value of honoring elders.  I am intending this as a feature on this site, a way to honor men who have made a significant contribution to other men, especially when it comes to finding one's way and finding honor on one's path. Most of the men I include here will be elders, who's life story, voice and ideas may inspire you to learn from them.] Dr. Stephen R. Covey was a primary influence on my learning journey.  When I was nineteen my father had left me with his book,...
